Yoga and Essential Oils
Music at this age really makes the preschool yoga class come alive and makes a pose or activity extra fun. I find though that I need to watch how much music I play as some students find it very distracting to the story or they may find it hard to balance and focus if there is too much other stimulation so pick your songs with care and remember that what works great one day may not be what is needed another day….
Sun Salutations:
Here Comes the Sun – George Harrison or Yo-Yo Ma
The Sound of Sunshine – Michael Franti & Spearhead
Dance for the Sun – Kira Willey – careful on this one though with jump backs and preschoolers not always a good combination!
Dancing around or Freeze & Flow:
I Really Love to Dance – Laurie Berkner
Wake Up Everybody – Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes
Walking On Sunshine – Katrina & The Waves
Cat or Meow Pose: The Cat Came Back – The Laurie Berkner Band (other poses you can act out too…)
Snake Pose: Snake Charmer – Kidz Jamz
Rocking Horse Pose: The Rocking Horse Song – YogaKids
Marble Toes: 3 Rs – Jack Johnson
Popcorn Pose: The Canadian Snacktime Trilogy: II. Popcorn – Barenaked Ladies
Drive My Car Pose: Drive My Car – The Laurie Berkner Band (Great actions with this one!)
Savasana – or Siesta Pose:
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star – Carol Welsman
Nature In Balance – Dan Gibson’s Solitudes
Grateful – Art Garfunkel
Golden Slumbers / The End – K.d. lang
I tend to pick the songs to go with the pose or activity and just hit play and pause on the ipod instead of having music go continuously – what do you find works for you? What other great songs do you have to suggest? Post a comment below or share them on flourish’s facebook page.
